Summary: The paper examines in a dynamic way, the evolution of the competitiveness and the industrial structure of Espírito Santo, with a main focus on the qualification, skills and knowledge involved in industrial
employment since 1985, when it began in the paradigm of Information
Technologies and Communication. An analysis of professional qualification institutions at the technical and higher level in the state is also performed, as it is a competitive factor external to the firm. Therefore, the work addresses competitiveness through internal, systemic and external aspects of the Espírito Santo industry. Finally, it is checked whether the state has accumulated the necessary skills to insert it into the new industry 4.0 production standard.
