Summary: The present dissertation analyzes the evolution of the interrelationship among industrialization and economic development, from the ‘post-Keynesian’ perspective. Specificities of the industrial sector and its high potential to leverage growth stand out. It presents a system of debate about economic development with a view of contemporary theories (original and post-Keynesian New Developmentalism) and an approach based on Keynes’ writings, highlighting his theoretical and methodological differences. It emphasizes the importance of national development strategies for the resumption of growth on part of middle-income countries. The study concludes that, despite the efforts
on developing new aspects that discuss development strategies, contemporary theories reveal some limitations from a theoretical and practical point of view. As a result, the most adequate perspective within the post-Keynesian scope focuses on the fundamentalist
Keynesian strand.
