Summary: This dissertation investigates the effect of the quality of education on the economic growth of Brazilian States, between 2005 and 2015 based on the augmented Solow model (PRITCHETT, 2001) and Hanushek and Woessmann (2012a). The measure of human capital will be estimated from the Basic Education Development Index data. For this, the adopted methodology is
based on a Generalized method of moments (GMM) system in one and two steps, with robust standard errors. To control potential instrument proliferation
problems, the collapse method is used. The results demonstrate that Brazilian
education did not fail, so the quality of basic education promoted direct effects on the economic growth of Brazilian states.
